Risk Management for Home Visitors is a practical and research-based workshop that will equip outreach workers with the skills, awareness and strategies to stay safe and healthy in their work.

This training has been developed specifically for home visitors, by the Home Visitor Training Initiative at BC Council for Families, with extensive consultation through WorkSafeBC and an occupational health-care expert.

Following the training, participants will have: 1) an increased level of knowledge of the risks of delivering social services in clients’ homes, and 2) increased skills and knowledge to assess risk levels and to take the appropriate steps to mitigate risk. Risk Management policies and resources from Canada, the US and other countries have been integrated into this practical and informative workshop.  

Topics covered include:

  • The BC Workers Compensation Act
  • Occupational Health and Safety Rights
  • Risk assessment
  • Strategies to mitigate risks such as: working alone, slips and falls, driving and travel, violence, infectious diseases, and psychological trauma

Platform

This training will be taking place online via Zoom. Participants will be emailed the meeting link. There will be breaks throughout this training.

Materials

You must have secure Wi-Fi, single use computer /tablet with full audio and video capabilities. No phones please. Worksheets will be emailed to you for printing.  

Prerequisite

Participants should have experience working as a home visitor.
