We're Hiring! 
We are now accepting applications for a Behaviour and Family Support Counsellor  to work in our Castlegar Office, serving the West Kootenays.

Using an outreach, community-based, family-centered service delivery approach

The Behaviour and Family Support Counsellor will provide various services to families and their children / youth aged 0-18, who are eligible for Children and Youth with Support Needs (CYSN) services through the Ministry for Children and Family Development (MCFD).

Key responsibilities

The Behaviour and Family Support Counsellor will work with children and youth with an Autism Spectrum diagnosis; developmental disabilities; an FASD diagnosis; with complex developmental behavioural and/or medical conditions or other support needs.

The Behaviour and Family Support Counsellor responsibilities Include:

  • Providing in-home assessment, education, support, skill building and behaviours intervention and support.
  • Coordinating services with other community partners and stakeholders.
  • Increasing the capacity of families served to respond effectively to their child or youth’s individual needs, and to promote a strong parent-child relationship.
     
  • Creating a personalized support plan that may involve strategies to address unmet needs expressed through behavior using intervention techniques, enhancing coping and parenting skills, increasing parental capacity, and fostering community and natural supports.
     
  • Providing behaviour therapy and positive parenting and other parenting and child coping strategies with a behaviour and trauma informed approach and developmental lens

    Other responsibilities include:

  • Building relationships and connections within the community to improve service integration.
  • Completing Functional Behaviour Analysis as required.
    Completing Positive Behaviour Support Plans as required.
     
  • Appling culturally safe and agile, trauma informed, relational and person / family- centered modalities.
Qualifications (education, experience, skills)

A bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (BSW / BA-Psychology / BA- CYC etc.) will be with experience directly related to working with Child and Youth with Support Needs (CYSN) clients, such as:

  • Behavioural Consultant or Intervention Services
     
  • Child, youth, and family services program.

Other Requirements: 

Given the nature of our work, please note that all shortlisted candidates:

  • Need a valid BC Driver's License, regional insurance, and a reliable personal vehicle.
     
  • Must undergo a screening process, including a criminal record search.
Hours of work (e.g., 37.5 hours per week, etc)
Full-Time, Permanent Position. Based on a 40-hours per week.
Compensation (wage only)
$29.75 – $31.25 per hour based on experience and education. Upon successful completion of a trial period, this position is eligible for a full benefit package (including dental plan, vision coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage, long-term
