The Federation’s Travel Subsidy is available to help offset the costs of participation for Federation members (especially smaller, remote, and Indigenous organizations). The application form [PDF] is available here. For more information, contact The Federation office.
Each year, The Federation’s June conferences are an opportunity to examine current and emerging issues—the things that you, our members, have told us you want to hear more about. For the first time in over two years, we are excited to be hosting our annual Current and Emerging Issues Conference in person once again.
That said, we are mindful that this will be our first in-person gathering in a while. As such, our goal is to create an inviting opportunity to connect and to provide valuable information and ideas to take back to your workplace that is safe and respectful.
The morning session will feature a keynote session “in conversation” with Bruce McIvor, author of the book Standoff: Why Reconciliation Fails Indigenous People and How to Fix It and a partner at First Peoples Law LLP, a law firm dedicated to defending and advancing Indigenous Peoples’ inherent and constitutionally protected title, rights and treaty rights. Hear from someone who has been “at the forefront of dismantling Canada’s colonial legal system,” ask questions, and find out what is needed to move meaningfully forward into reconciliation.
In the afternoon, an interview with Cathy Taylor, the Executive Director of the Ontario Nonprofit Network will explore and reflect on our sector’s experience of the COVID-19 pandemic, discuss key lessons and takeaways, and identify practices and approaches our organizations have stopped doing as a result of the pandemic and some new things we should start doing (or continue doing).
Join Federation members and partners from across the province to discuss new and emerging issues in social care, reconnect with old friends and meet new ones. The Federation staff team is committed to planning an engaging and safe day full of connection and cross-sector learning. Stay tuned for speaker announcements, program details, and agendas.
Federation Members: Please note that there is separate registration for the Annual General Meeting Friday, June 17th.
Registrants can book their rooms at Penticton Lakeside Resort and Conference Centre by calling 1-800-663-9400 or emailing lakeside@rpbhotels.com and stating that they are FCSSBC Conference delegates. You can also register online here and enter FCSSBC in the promo code box.
The guestroom block cut-off date is April 21st so register soon to secure the best rooms and rates.
There are only a small number of guestrooms available for anyone wanting to extend their stay beyond Friday the 17th so anyone wanting to remain in Penticton for the weekend should book as soon as possible.
Many thanks to our friends at Schmunk Gatt Smith & Associates for sponsoring this event and the always popular Networking Reception after the conference. Schmunk Gatt Smith & Associates have been friends and partners of The Federation since 1984 and we are very thankful for this relationship and their ongoing support.
The Federation’s 40th Annual General Meeting will take place on Friday, June 17th following the Emerging Issues Conference. The AGM will wrap up by noon to give members time to catch flights home or time to get a head start on their sunny weekend in the Okanagan.
The Annual General Meeting Agenda will be emailed to Federation members prior to the event but a brief overview of some of the key items that take place is below. Please note: The Federation AGM is for members and invited guests only.
Friday, June 17th, 2022
9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Penticton Lakeside Resort and Conference Centre
Federation Members & Invited Guests Only
The AGM will include board elections for the positions of President and Regional Director (5). Volunteering for a spot on the Board of Directors is an excellent opportunity for members to get more involved with The Federation, engage with other members and sector partners, weigh in on key issues, and influence the direction of our organization over the years to come.
Executive Director Rick FitzZaland and Associate Executive Director Rebecca Ataya Lang will share The Federation’s 2022 Annual Report at the Annual General Meeting. The presentation will include highlights from the past year, detail key activities and accomplishments, and map out what is ahead for The Federation in the year ahead. A Q&A will follow
The Annual General Meeting will also see the presentation of the 2022 Award for Excellence. Each year, The Federation recognizes the exceptional contributions of an individual, team or organization in the field of child, family or community social services. This year, the award will be presented to an organization. You can learn more about the award and nominate an organization here.
